Zoo Antwerp

Discover the Antwerp Zoo

The Antwerp Zoo is a monumental city zoo with exotic species, mainly from the former colony Belgian-Congo. The park dates back to 1843 and is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. The zoo has over 5000 animals, such as elephants, lions, okapis, gorillas and giraffes. You can walk through one of the most beautiful 19th-century gardens.

City heart and nature conservation

In the Antwerp zoo you can walk on a wooden walkaway through the hippotopia swamp with hippopotamus, Dalmatian pelicans, tapirs and beavers. In the bird building you will see more than 45 species of birds. The Antwerp zoo is involved in a breeding program through which endangered species will not become extinct. The park is located in Antwerp and is also the green heart of the city. By visiting the zoo you contribute to the conservation of nature on earth. A part of the profit goes to scientific research and nature conservation.
