Walking through Alblasserwaard

The Alblasserwaard is with World Heritage site ‘Kinderdijk’ a typical old Dutch hiking area. You walk by the mill complex that has played an important role in the fight against the water. You come by vast polders and pastures. You can discover anything about this unique piece of the Netherlands.

Mills and peats

Kinderdijk is on the Unesco World Heritage list. The special mills which are located in this area are the main reason for this listing. You can enjoy beautiful walks along the mills. In the visitor center Wisboomgemaal you will get information about the area and you can choose from a variety of walks. You can choose short, one-day walks or multiple-day walks. Especially the large Rivierenpad and Floris V path are highly recommended from the category long hikes. Peats and rustic farmhouses alternate in the area.

Forests and boats

You can do some excellent hiking in the rest of the Alblasserwaard. You can walk by the woods near Alblasserdam, the Alblasserbos with oaks, alder, willows and various bird species. En route you’ll see polder mills, flora and fauna. Check out Alblasserwaard from the water. Make a boat trip for an unforgettable experience.
