Discover Brandenburg

Brandenburg is a state in the east of Germany with its capital Potsdam. Brandenburg is also called ‘the land of the 3000 lakes’. Berlin is the center of the state. The city is officially part of Brandenburg, but since 1920 it’s like an enclave in the state. In Brandenburg you will find a variety of activities that you can do. Nature

A holiday in Brandenburg is always green. About one third of the land is a protected area! For example; the National Park Unteres Oderal, three Unesco biosphere reserves and eleven nature reserves. You can even find the black stork and the rare Aquatic warbler in the Unteres Odertal National Park.

Spreewald is a forested bog with a surface area of more than 3000 square kilometers and is located in the southeast of Brandenburg. There are 18.000 animal- and plant species. There is almost 1000 kilometers of water flow due to the many sub streams of the Spree river. The area is recognized as a biosphere reserve by Unesco.

Culture

Famous landscape architects as Schinkel, Persius Knobelsdorff and Lenné designed the castles and parks in Brandenburg. There are more than 500 castles and mansions, and invites its visitors to get acquainted with a rich cultural heritage in beautiful locations. The Prussion past is no longer visible in this versatile stage. Highlights include the Unesco World Heritage site in Potsdam and Rheinsberg castle. The Neuzelle monastery, also called the ‘Baroque wonder’ and the filmpark Babelsberg are worth a visit.

Water

There are more than 3000 crystal clear lakes and 30.000 river landscapes in Brandenburg. This makes Brandenburg the state with the largest surface to inland waters. In addition to all the water there’s a lot of green in the state as well. It’s a true blue paradise and is one of the largest water sports areas of Europe.
