Discover Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a state in the northeast of Germany, with as capital city Schwerin. However, this is not the largest city of the state, this is the harbor city Rostock. It is one of the least densely populated state. Mecklenburg is located between two rivers. In the southwest you will find the Elbe river and in the east you’ll find the Oder river. Mecklenburg is, due to the large amount of beautiful nature, the ultimate travel destination for a great walking holiday.

Hiking

There is a large quantity of well-groomed bicycle paths in this region, which are also great for walkers. The region has several hiking routes apart from these bicycle paths. They lead you through coniferous and deciduous forests, past idyllic streams or along the coast of the Baltic sea. Along the way you’ll pass historic towns, picturesque villages and country houses with beautiful gardens. Spotting wildlife in the area is not uncommon. Watersports

The rivers and lakes in Mecklenburg belong to one of the largest contiguous watersports area of Europe. Canoe trips are not uncommon to do here. However, this area is great for sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing as well. You can relax on the beach of the Baltic sea. It’s very suitable to go to with children. We can hear you thinking; to the sea? In the northern part of Germany? Isn’t that way too cold? Then you’re wrong! Mecklenburg has relatively a lot of sun hours, so a beach holiday in this part of Germany is a good possibility.

A lot of people say that a holiday in Mecklenburg is a holiday at the Baltic sea. Even though the beach is, most of the time, still 50 kilometers away. This is quite normal in Germany, but for most of the Dutch people this is not normal when they’re away on holiday.
