Hiking in central-Limburg
Central-Limburg has a fairly flat landscape and is ideal for every type of hiker. There are national parks with special flora and fauna. You can make walks across borders with a trip to Germany or Belgium. En route you’ll see a variety of flora and fauna.
Across the border
The ‘Meinweg’ is one of the national parks in the middle of Limburg where you walk through a landscape with steep transitions. In addition, there are forests, heaths, valleys, puddles and streams. It’s easy to walk from Grenspark Kempen-Broek into Belgium. This park is located in both countries. However, the most beautiful nature reserve is the Leudal with vast forests where you walk around in absolute peace and natural beauty.
Churches and castles
Central-Limburg has a unique location in between Belgium and Germany. This narrow piece of Limburg is, among other things, famous for its numerous religious buildings. During your walk you can have a look in the Abdijchurch of the Basilica of the St. Wiro, Plechelmus and Otgerus. Visit impressive medieval construction works or a castle. You will find imposing castles in the area, such as Aerwinkel, built by the famous architect Cuypers.

In the spring of 2011, a spectacular new accommodation opened its doors on an historic location; the former prison in Roermond. Today, this luxurious hotel is a place where you will happily be locked up. The foundations of the prison, dating from 1863, have been left intact, giving the hotel its characteristic atmosphere. Het Arresthuis has converted the 105 former prison cells into 36 spacious guest rooms and 4 luxurious suites. All rooms have contemporary design and are furnished with your comfort in mind. In the courtyard you can unwind on the lovely terrace. Here, or in the restaurant, you can enjoy some of the exclusive dishes that our chefs prepare. Het Arresthuis lies directly in the centre of Roermond, just minutes away from the central station, making access by public transport very convenient. In addition, the hotel is also easily reached by car. Düsseldorf International Airport is only 60 km away from the city of Roermond.
